Illinois residents choose Just Energy

Illinois residents have plenty of options when searching for an energy provider, and that’s a good thing. In a state home to one of the country’s largest cities and nearly 26 million acres of farmland, Illinois residential and business customers have a range of energy needs.

In Illinois, nearly 80% of households rely on natural gas for heating, which means most consumers need to purchase both natural gas and electricity. We know that Illinois winters are nothing to scoff at. Securing a competitive natural gas rate makes a big difference keeping the chill away and helping your household stay on-budget during the winter months. With Just Energy, you can bundle your service and get both affordable natural gas rate and electricity rates—which you’ll appreciate when the summer humidity arrives and it’s time to turn on the air conditioning.

Most importantly, bundling your electricity and natural gas saves time and hassle. Each commodity has its own plan with its own rate per kilowatt-hour or therm. Select your preferred plans and we’ll combine them both into one monthly bill.

We believe in offering customers as much as we can.

Understanding energy deregulation in Illinois

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Illinois energy standards underwent significant changes. Lawmakers made the decision to deregulate both residential and commercial energy to encourage competition for Illinois customers. Once the changes took place, the Illinois energy market welcomed a new type of energy provider.

Figuring out exactly how energy gets to your home can be confusing at first. Familiarize yourself with the process and a few terms to feel more informed as you shop:

  • Just Energy is an energy retailer.
  • Energy retailers purchase energy and then package and sell that energy to consumers.
  • Utilities deliver power to your home and maintain infrastructure like pipes and power lines.

Deregulated energy benefits you by providing a greater amount of choice in the energy market. If your current supplier isn’t delivering the service you expect, don’t settle.

Switching energy providers is easy

It might’ve taken the Cubs 71 years to break the Billy Goat curse, but for Illinois residents, it takes just minutes to switch electricity providers. Follow a few simple steps, and you’ll be on your way to better energy service in less time than it takes to play nine innings.

Step 1

Call Just Energy at 800-316-1640

Step 2

Spend a few minutes working with an energy advisor to enroll in the right plan.

Step 3

Let your current supplier know that you’ll be switching.

Step 4

Sit back and relax! We’ll take it from here. Your electricity or natural gas delivery will continue with no interruption.

How billing works

Once you receive your first bill from Just Energy, you’ll see charges listed from your supplier and from your utility. In Illinois, that could be ComEd, Nicor, People’s Gas, or one of many others. If you’re unsure whether or not Just Energy works with your utility just call us and ask.

Your supplier charges change depending on your energy usage each month. Those charges are based on the per term and/or per kWh rate agreed upon in your contract.

Your utility charges will account for power and gas line maintenance and the physical delivery of energy to your home.

Want to simplify payment even more? Opt into paperless billing to reduce waste and clutter in your mailbox and save time paying your bill each month. Once you sign up, use the My Just Energy app, sign up for email reminders, or log into our secure online portal to check your billing and usage throughout the month. Want to budget for the upcoming year? Check your past bills to see what your energy costs were during previous years.
