Reliant Energy offers a variety of electricity plans, often with shorter contract terms, higher rates and solar-backed options. While they can include unique perks, many still come with usage requirements or restrictions to maximize savings as well as early termination fees. Here are some of the most popular Reliant plans:
Power Savings Plan: Designed for small-to-medium homes with price protection for up to 24 months. This plan includes a $50 bill credit when usage reaches 1,000 kWh or more.
Truly Free Nights: Designed for eco-conscious night owls. This plan offers free electricity every night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., backed by 100% solar energy.
Truly Free Weekends: Get free electricity from Friday night to Sunday evening with no energy or delivery charges. Similar to other Truly Free plans, this option is powered by 100% solar energy.
Apartment 12 Plan: 12-month plan designed for renters. This option features a lower energy charge for the first 1,000 kWh and no minimum usage fees. It does feature a cancellation fee that decreases over time, based on the number of months remaining on your plan.
Typically, you can find the best rates with long-term contracts, but Reliant Energy also offers options like prepaid plans that don’t require a credit check.

When it comes to online reviews, Just Energy has a higher rating on Consumer Affairs, with a score of 4 out of 5 stars. That drops to 2.5 stars for Reliant Energy.
Some customers reported a hard time getting in touch with Reliant Energy, and were concerned that their rates had gone up unexpectedly.
Just Energy customers also raised concerns about rates, but in general they found the customer support team easy to reach and the website easy to navigate.
Over a six-month period in 2022, there were 363 complaints about Reliant Energy to the Public Utility Commission of Texasvs. 182 for Just Energy.
Account Management
Just Energy provides several ways for customers to manage their account, including an online portal that customers can use to pay their bills and track their energy usage.
There’s also a Just Energy Advisor App that you can use to schedule service reminders and track climate reports and power outages. If there are rolling blackouts in Texas, Just Energy will “alert all customers who have provided a working email address when there may be an electricity emergency that requires involuntary load shedding.”
Reliant Energy also has an online portal and a mobile app for tracking energy usage and making payments. Unfortunately, there’s no way to add a second person to your online account, so if you need to share an account with a spouse or family member, you’ll have to share your log-in details with them.
Fees and Deposits
Both energy companies charge early termination fees, but they vary from plan to plan. Just Energy’s cancellation feestend to be a fairly consistent $175. Reliant’s fees are anywhere from $10 to $295, depending on the contract.
Some plans also incur a monthly fee. For example, you can upgrade your Just Energy plan to a Green Energy plan for $9.99 per month. Reliant Energy has a similar option with Reliant EcoShare, which charges $3.95-5.95 to offset a customer’s energy usage.
Reliant Energy may also charge a deposit, depending on your credit history. If so, they’ll return it as a bill credit after 12 consecutive payments, or apply it to your final bill.
Service Transfers
Both companies make it easy for you to transfer your energy service to a new address if you move to another location within their service area.
Reliant lets you schedule a transfer up to 60 days in advance to avoid any interruption to your service. Your deposit and AutoPay settings will be transferred too.
Just Energy will allow you to keep your existing contract as long as the same services are available at your new address.
