How Just Energy Operates in ATCO’s Service Areas

Just Energy is a REP that works with utility companies like ATCO Electric to ensure you have power in your home. As a utility provider, ATCO delivers your energy, but you have to buy your electricity from a REP when you need it. REPs like Just Energy purchase energy at wholesale and resell it to customers. Your electricity plan and contract terms determine your rates.

While Just Energy is responsible for managing your energy plan’s billing and customer service, ATCO is responsible for the transmission lines, poles, meters, and other equipment and infrastructure needed for electricity to reach your home reliably.

ATCO FAQS

ATCO Electric is a utility company, so it doesn’t offer electricity plans. However, ATCO Energy, an ATCO subsidiary, works as an energy provider and has plans available.

No, there’s no way to reduce TDU charges from ATCO, as they are set and regulated by the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC). All neighbors in your area pay the same rate, as these rates are non-negotiable and don’t change with energy providers.

Utility companies own and maintain the power lines, substations, meters, and other infrastructure that allow power to reach your home. They also fix equipment responsible for power outages.

Energy providers only purchase the electricity from an energy producer and resell it to you at rates stated in your chosen retail electricity plan.

Just Energy differs from ATCO because it is a retail electricity provider, while ATCO Electric is a utility company. ATCO Electric delivers your power, but you need to purchase the electricity you use through energy providers like Just Energy.

If your utility company is ATCO, contact them at 1-800-668-5506 or fill out ATCO Electric’s online form.
